Role Overview

To support its growing portfolio of projects across the country, Gradiant is seeking highly capable Commissioning Engineers with strong process engineering backgrounds and proven experience in commissioning, startup, operations, and optimization of industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities. These positions will play a critical role in safely transitioning systems from mechanical completion through commissioning, startup, performance testing, and final handover to operations.

Responsibilities

  • Execute dry and wet commissioning activities for assigned process systems.
  • Verify mechanical completion and commissioning readiness against the pre-requisites (installation, pressure / hydro tests, safety showers, plant power, PLC/SCADA readiness, CDA/ICA and NPW availability).
  • Develop start-up plans and process testing methodologies for each subsystem, aligned with the Gradiant ID1 commissioning plans.
  • Coordinate process start-up activities with Micron operations, vendors and the Hoffman / Exyte construction teams.
  • Supervise membrane and media handling: UF / TMF module installation, RO pressure-vessel cleaning and membrane loading, catalyst and ACF media loading.
  • Troubleshoot process and operational issues during commissioning.
  • Verify process performance against design criteria and the influent / effluent quality targets of each system.
  • Validate hydraulic and process loading rates (flux, recovery, backwash and CIP frequency, chemical dose rates).
  • Optimize process parameters to achieve stable operation, including coagulation / flocculation, ozone and UV dose, pH and ORP control.
  • Monitor treatment efficiency, recovery rates and product-water quality; reconcile online analyser readings with laboratory results.
  • Support guarantee testing and performance verification under the performance test sampling and testing plan.
  • Analyze process data and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare performance test reports and recommendations.
  • Compile process commissioning records, alarm / setpoint lists and turnover dossiers.
  • Train Client operators on process operation, CIP and routine troubleshooting; support early operation after handover.
  • Work under the ID1 permit system — commissioning permit, work-at-height and confined-space permits — and Micron / Hoffman site rules.
  • Apply lockout/tagout (LOTO), line-break and chemical-handling procedures; confirm safety showers and eyewashes are in service before chemicals are introduced.
  • Take part in JHAs, toolbox talks and pre-task planning; stop work when conditions are unsafe; report incidents and near misses immediately.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineer, process engineer or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of commissioning, start-up or operations experience in industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Hands-on start-up of membrane systems (UF / RO) and physical-chemical treatment; semiconductor or high-purity projects strongly preferred.

Authorizations & certifications

  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, resident within commuting distance of Boise, Idaho.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction (OSHA 10 minimum); LOTO and confined-space training.
