Role Overview

The Construction Safety Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety and health programs on construction projects to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and client-specific requirements. The role supports project management, field supervision, subcontractors, and craft personnel by identifying hazards, conducting risk assessments, implementing corrective actions, and promoting a proactive safety culture that prevents injuries, illnesses, property damage, and environmental incidents. 

The Construction Safety Engineer serves as a technical resource for construction safety, regulatory compliance, incident investigations, training, and continuous improvement initiatives across all phases of construction activities. 

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain project-specific safety and health programs.  
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, client, and company safety requirements.  
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety observations.  
  • Identify workplace hazards and perform risk assessments.  
  • Develop and review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).  
  • Recommend and verify corrective actions for identified hazards.  
  • Monitor high-risk activities including fall protection, excavation, confined space entry, electrical work, and crane operations.  
  • Lead and support incident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations.  
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop preventive measures.  
  • Deliver safety orientations, training sessions, and toolbox talks.  
  • Coach supervisors, employees, and subcontractors on safe work practices.  
  • Manage subcontractor safety compliance and performance.  
  • Exercise stop-work authority when imminent danger conditions exist.  
  • Develop and coordinate emergency response plans and drills.  
  • Maintain safety records, reports, and compliance documentation.  
  • Track safety metrics, trends, and corrective action completion.  
  • Participate in pre-job planning and constructability reviews.  
  • Serve as the project's subject matter expert for construction safety.  
  • Promote a positive safety culture through field engagement and leadership.  
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce incidents and improve overall safety performance

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of construction safety experience on industrial, commercial, heavy civil, energy, manufacturing, or infrastructure projects. 

    • Required: CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) 

    • Preferred: ASP, CSP, OHST, OSHA 500/510, First Aid/CPR Instructor
