Job Overview :
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer – Instrumentation, Control & Automation to support the successful delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects. The role is responsible for executing pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, start-up, and handover activities for instrumentation, control, and automation systems.
The successful candidate will ensure that PLC, SCADA, HMI, RTU, DCS, MCC, and field instrumentation systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and client expectations. Working closely with engineering, process, construction, vendors, subcontractors, and operations teams, the individual will play a key role in achieving operational readiness, plant start-up, performance validation, and smooth system handover.
This position involves frequent travel to project sites within India and internationally and requires the ability to work effectively in industrial and construction environments while maintaining strict safety compliance.
Responsibilities :
Engineering Support
- Support proposal and process teams by providing technical inputs and cost estimates for electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems.
- Review and verify P&IDs, control philosophies, instrument datasheets, PLC panel drawings, and automation documentation.
- Collaborate with process engineers to understand process control requirements.
- Assist in the development of control philosophies, HMI graphics, alarm management systems, and reporting solutions.
- Coordinate with system integrators on control panel and wiring design reviews.
- Support testing and validation of PLC, SCADA, HMI, RTU, and DCS systems.
Commissioning Planning
- Participate in the preparation and execution of commissioning plans.
- Review design documents and identify commissioning requirements.
- Assist in defining system boundaries and completion packages.
- Ensure the availability of commissioning tools, temporary systems, utilities, and test equipment.
- Participate in design reviews with a focus on operability and maintainability.
Testing, Commissioning & Start-Up
- Execute pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for instrumentation, control, and automation systems.
- Perform instrument calibration verification, loop checking, and functional testing activities.
- Conduct cold loop and hot loop testing.
- Verify PLC and SCADA programming logic, interlocks, alarms, and cause-and-effect sequences.
- Validate package vendor control systems and plant communication networks.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Control Factory Acceptance Testing (CFAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and performance testing activities.
- Coordinate plant start-up activities with process and commissioning teams.
- Ensure all commissioning activities are completed in compliance with client requirements, quality standards, project schedules, and documentation procedures.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of instrumentation and control system issues during start-up and performance testing.
Project Execution & Coordination
- Coordinate with project teams, clients, contractors, subcontractors, package vendors, and suppliers during commissioning activities.
- Monitor commissioning progress and provide regular status updates.
- Ensure commissioning activities are completed within project timelines and quality standards.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to achieve successful commissioning and operational readiness.
Documentation & Quality Compliance
- Maintain commissioning records and documentation in accordance with project procedures and quality requirements.
- Prepare, update, and maintain Instrument Calibration Records / Cold Loop and Hot Loop Test Reports / Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) / Commissioning Checklists / FAT and SAT Reports / Cause & Effect Verification Records / System Completion and Handover Documentation.
- Support the preparation of as-built documentation and commissioning dossiers.
- Ensure accurate documentation for system completion and project close-out.
Training & Handover
- Support operator and maintenance training activities.
- Assist in the handover of commissioned systems to Operations & Maintenance (O&M) teams.
- Provide technical support during initial plant operation and performance guarantee testing periods.
- Ensure a smooth transition of fully functional systems into plant operations.
Requirements :
- Bachelor's Degree in Control & Instrumentation Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Electronics Engineering / Mechatronics Engineering / Related Engineering Discipline.
- Master's Degree is an added advantage.
- 7–15 years of commissioning experience in Water Treatment Plants (WTP) / Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) / Industrial Process Systems / Automation and Control Systems.
- Hands-on experience in PLC/SCADA-based system commissioning is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes.
- Understanding of PLC, SCADA, HMI, DCS, RTU, MCC, and instrumentation systems.
- Familiarity with industrial communication networks.
- Basic PLC and SCADA programming knowledge.
- Understanding of process control loops, loop checking, and functional testing procedures.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and control philosophies.
- Experience with FAT, CFAT, SAT, plant start-up, and commissioning activities.
- Knowledge of instrument calibration, control system verification, performance testing, and automation system validation.
Working Conditions
- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites across India and internationally.
- Ability to work at site locations during commissioning, start-up, and performance testing phases.
- Comfortable working in industrial and construction environments while adhering to all safety and compliance requirements.
