Role overview :
The Manager, Mechanical Design will lead the design execution for global water and wastewater treatment projects, ensuring all deliverables meet strict quality standards, timelines, and budgets. This role requires a strong technical leader who can manage internal drafting teams and 3rd party design partners, act as the primary technical liaison with clients, and mentor staff to foster professional development.
Responsibilities :
- Direct the mechanical design execution for complex water and wastewater treatment projects on a global scale.
- Ensure all designs are completed accurately, within established schedules, and on budget.
- Review technical specifications to ensure full compliance with customer requirements and industry standards.
- Lead 3D model/design reviews (30%, 60%, 90%) internally and with clients to ensure the highest standards.
- Oversee preparation of general arrangement drawings, piping details, skid, and module arrangement drawings.
- Support the Head of Engineering in establishing, maintaining, and applying procedures to improve quality, efficiency, and repeatability of design activities.
- Actively mentor and train the drafting team to ensure development goals are met.
- Oversee the development of drafting standards and procedures to meet continuous improvement goals.
- Manage 3rd party design companies and outsourcing partners to complete projects on time.
- Coordinate all drafting inputs and deliverables across projects, managing the 3D model design environment.
- Review fabrication drawings from external fabricators to ensure compliance.
- Liaise with clients on technical aspects, justifying design directions, and participate in internal/external design reviews.
- Collaborate with Project Managers (PMs), QA/QC, Skid Fabricators, and Construction Managers.
- Oversee and actively participate in providing CAD support to engineering and project execution.
- Maintain CAD document archive and retrieval systems.
- Actively participate in document control processes to ensure the highest standards of drafting accuracy.
Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3 to 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, specifically in water/wastewater treatment or process plant engineering.
- Proven experience in a leadership or managerial role, supervising design teams.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks).
- Strong knowledge of piping design, skid arrangements, and material selection.
- Excellent communication skills for client-facing technical discussions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
