Plant Operator

Job Summary

The Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) systems to ensure continuous plant performance and compliance with environmental regulations. This role involves monitoring treatment processes, conducting routine inspections and testing, performing operational and maintenance activities, and maintaining accurate records to support the effective operation of the facility. The Plant Operator will work closely with the site team to ensure operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

1. Report to the Site Supervisor and comply with all site instructions.

2. Operate, monitor, and maintain Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) systems to ensure efficient and uninterrupted operations.

3. Perform routine inspections, process monitoring, sampling, and testing as instructed.

4. Record and maintain accurate operational data, including plant parameters, chemical consumption, sludge generation, service reports, and daily log sheets.

5. Ensure plant performance complies with operational requirements, environmental regulations, and DOE discharge standards.

6. Monitor plant abnormalities and equipment performance, and promptly report issues, breakdowns, or process deviations to the Supervisor.

7. Carry out sludge handling, desludging activities, and maintain sludge inventory records.

8. Perform chemical handling, dosing, top-up activities, and ensure proper storage and disposal of chemical containers and used bags.

9. Conduct cartridge filter backwash, rinsing, and other routine operational activities.

10. Support maintenance activities, equipment servicing, calibration of instruments, and troubleshooting as assigned.

11. Maintain proper housekeeping standards, GMP compliance, and cleanliness of the plant, equipment, and work areas.

12. Ensure all tools, machinery, and instruments are properly maintained and kept in good working condition.

13. Participate in shift handovers and maintain effective communication with team members and supervisors.

14. Provide regular operational updates through designated communication channels.

15. Attend meetings, training sessions, and safety briefings as required.

16. Adhere to all company policies, safety requirements, Integrated Management System (IMS) procedures, and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.

17. Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.

Requirements

1. Minimum SPM or equivalent qualification.

2. Minimum 18 years of age.

3. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

4. Self-motivated, disciplined, and responsible.

5. Good teamwork and communication skills.

6. Possess own transportation and a smartphone.

7. Willing and able to work on rotating shifts.

8. Able to read, write, and communicate in Bahasa Malaysia and/or English.

9. Physically fit and able to work in an industrial plant environment.

10. Prior experience in water treatment, wastewater treatment, manufacturing, utilities, or plant operations will be an added advantage.
